Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly inspired the animation by Pjotr Sapegin who puts a story to the magnificent music. The animation allows the listener to interoperate the music in more ways than one. Animations allow us to bring the music to life. The Madame Butterfly animation sparked imagination in my mind. The puppets in the animation allowed me to intemperate the music and animations in a new way. It is not an animation with opera music in the background, rather a story.

The land in the animation its mystical and dreamy; the ocean clear, the sky blue, the grass green, butterfly monarchs the landscape and love floats through the air. The motion of the characters correlates with the music. The colors correlate with the mood of the music. The beautiful butterfly is visible at the best of times. But love is not always this pretty. The passionate lovers part which brings darkness to the world and the music.

Symbolism is a huge part of the symbolism in this film. The butterfly returns at key points in her life and relationship. When she meets her lover, when they part, and when he returns the butterfly is visible. I believe it symbolizes the growth of true love when you are forced to let go. A wise soul once said, “If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it's yours forever. If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be.” This animation beautifully depicts the power of love in life.
